Asians are a smaller race-and for years we felt that the BMI ranges were too high for Indians-now thankfully the WHO has approved the reduced BMI for Indians/Asians.
I had done a post on it way back in 2009:
http://bonnenutrition.blogspot.com/2009/02/new-bmi-guidelines-for-indianssouth.html
It's still good for a 'guesstimate' of where you stand :)Sweta (My Indian Dietitian)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07317493638998906683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6339763320840481095.post-58206951441912199172010-10-15T08:53:02.635+09:002010-10-15T08:53:02.635+09:00I do think BMI can be good for lots of people, but...I do think BMI can be good for lots of people, but then I look at someone like my husband. Yes, he could lose a few pounds. But he can also ride his bike faster than anyone I know and he's running his first 5k on Saturday. But yet his BMI says he's obese--when anyone who actually looks at him sees he's short with a huge barrel chest and broad shoulders. So it's definitely not perfect!Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18232262261483229338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6339763320840481095.post-31028467561756616072010-10-15T08:42:29.437+09:002010-10-15T08:42:29.437+09:00I try to pay attention to my bmi but I don't t...I try to pay attention to my bmi but I don't think it is accurate because of my muscles...so I try not to agonize over itMarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09435820427136822934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6339763320840481095.post-82041245191100551122010-10-15T06:40:31.804+09:002010-10-15T06:40:31.804+09:00great thoughts I agree its a risk indicator and no...great thoughts I agree its a risk indicator and not a green light :-) hope you get your iphone back soon

thanks for checking out the blog re designchow and chatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04225995063075911644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6339763320840481095.post-63984774022553867262010-10-15T06:36:38.835+09:002010-10-15T06:36:38.835+09:00I always like your Thursday thoughts! I agree that...I always like your Thursday thoughts! I agree that the BMI is not a "perfect" number. There are many flaws... I weighed pretty much the same I weigh now a few years ago, but my body composition was very different (more fat, less muscle). Also, my cardiovascular fitness level wasn't very good. So yes, the BMI is certainly not a number one should rely on.Andrea@WellnessNoteshttp://www.andreaswellnessnotes.comnoreply@blogger.com
