A stocked commissary means a happy shopper

When I started my day yesterday I was exhausted. By exhausted I mean I hit the snooze button on the alarm for 2 full hours. I subbed the night before for a 2 am-3 am seminar and then went to bed around 4 am, so waking up at 9:30 was apparently just not meant to be. On top of that, I am still readjusting to the time zone, so when I get up at 11:30 it is like 7:30 on the east coast. I am hoping I can catch up over the weekend.
So I started my day with 1/2 a bagel that I "imported" from Maryland. I was hoping this would jump start me and I could focus on getting some work done.

Since I picked so many different kinds of bagels, I was not 100% sure of this kind, but I did notice there were some sunflower seeds. I am guessing it was a multigrain bagel. It is always nice to actually be able to see grains and seeds inside.

I did get right to work on grading papers, but shortly there after I was hungry so I thought a Clif bar should really fill me up.

I had to go on base to pick up my very large package. I can't believe it only took 8 days for my bike to arrive here. Now it just needs to be reassembled and I am ready to go. Pray the weather clears up so I can ride before winter sets in.
Since I was on the base I decided to hit up the commissary since there was limited food in the house. Most of my TJ's purchases have not yet arrived (I am hoping this weekend, so fingers crossed). I was so excited when I walked in because I realized a shipment just came in. Fully stocked commissary!!!
Here is what it looks like fully stocked.
Lots of variety, not like the last time I wanted produce and the bins were empty.
I bought some of these and I plan to make some Portabello burgers.
I love mushrooms. These were really a nice size.
I had big plans for this guy right here.
Look how many kiwis there are. They even have the golden variety. I bought a bunch for lunches next week when I sub at the American high school.

Fully stocked yogurts! Picked up some of these for lunches too. Gotta love the German products.
So excited to see this product now offered. I am very thankful they have a good selection of Amy's here.
I had to replace the brown rice from the other night that was moldy. And I got some Ben and Jerry's (not the $9 kind) for the week. I can only eat a few bites, so I do not worry about overconsumption of this ice cream. If I have a pint it lasts about a week.
I bought some Special K for breakfast and it came with a "prize".
What a cute little package of craisins. I love dried cranberries, but I am really looking forward to my dried cherries coming in the mail.
So now down to business. Here is my beautiful eggplant.
Look what I found. Ryan had bought all this garlic when he made chili for a chili cook off while I was out of town. Perfect because I planned to make eggplant parmesan.
I did not want to fry my eggplant, so I decided baking was the way to go. I drizzled some olive oil and crushed garlic on the pieces and then placed them in the oven for 12 minutes at 375.
Yum!
I wanted to use up the sauce from the other night, so this was a great excuse. I also picked up some mozzarella, although I usually shred this myself, this was what I had available to me.
Sorry it's blurry, but you get the idea. After I removed it from the oven I put it in a glass dish and layed them to make my parm. Not too much sauce.
But I did go a little crazy with the cheese.
That went back in the oven for 15 minutes. In the meantime I made some spaghetti to go on the side and to use the rest of the sauce. I may have made too much pasta though, I couldn't even finish mine.

Very nice.
It tasted just as good as it looks. Again, too much pasta for me, but the eggplant was wonderful. Here we have a steam problem because of the humidity. I always want to take pics of the food, but the steam gets in the way. The food doesn't even have to be HOT to STEAM.
I really enjoyed this dinner and I was glad Ryan liked it too. That was 2 nights in a row I cooked. Wow, I must be coming down with a virus! No, but seriously, I have the time so I am really working on my cooking skills.
I wanted to leave everyone with our Halloween costumes. Can't decorate the house since we live locally, but there are activities on base. I bought us costumes while I was at home visiting. This is for Ryan.
Complete with monster hands.
And for me, a cute little 50's car hop outfit.
QUESTIONS: What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Are you giving out candy? Going to a party?

OH I miss having prizes in my cereal!! haha, that used to be so fun.

All the fresh produce at the grocery store looks wonderful, and portobelo mushroom burgers sound delicious. I should do that sometime.

Nick and I don't have any plans for Halloween yet, and we like in an apartment where kids don't come for candy :( We may go to my parent's house and pass out candy for them. In that case, I'll be Dorothy (it's the only costume I have really..and it's fun!). I will give out apples and bananas. haha, jk, I'll give out chocolate goodies of course!

I love successful shopping trips! :)

The Halloween plan is to hand out candy with the toddler who has a pumpkin outfit. But I'm not sure if he'll be too scared, so we'll have to see...

The eggplant looks super YUM... As for Halloween, our complex is having a progressive dinner party where one couple hosts appetizers, then we move on to another house for entree, then dessert etc. Should be fun.. NO clue what to wear.. thats always tough!!

That place looks like heaven to me. I'm dying over the portobellas! The eggplant parm came out great.

My boyfriend and I are dressing as the British comedy duo "The Mighty Boosh" for Halloween. I'm going to be Vince!

Have fun!

Thanks for visiting 990 Square via Astra's blog! It's interesting to see all of those American products so far from home! When one of my closest friends lived abroad for a year I had to mail her peanut butter every so often because she couldn't find it in Scotland!

As for Halloween, I'll probably just hand out candy and maybe go to Fells Point. Always fun over there when Halloween is on a weekend!
