Back to Reality

Maybe my everyday life is still not 100% reality, but it is as close as I can get for now.  Since I did not actually post while in Paris, I have really been home for a few days.  By now I have been getting settled.
I left Paris separately from Ryan because he had to return to Germany and catch his flight from there.  I went to the Paris airport myself, and spent some time shopping around.  The first place that caught my eye was a cookie and candy shop.  The caramels and cookies piled high looked too good to resist to so I bought some.

My flight was delayed, so I decided to order some lunch at a cafe.  Good thing I ordered when I did and got a table, because shortly after, the line was wrapping around the room and there was no place to sit.
I ordered a sandwich with cheese and tapenade.

Then, while I waited, I dug in to my cookie stash.  You can see from the bag why this place was too cute to pass up.

Here are my cookies.  Many were filled with jam.

The chocolate did not have any filling and was very dry.  It was also too bitter for a dry cookie, and I was a little disappointed.

On the flight from Paris to Lisbon, I did have a vegetarian meal.

Here is my roasted veggie sandwich.

In Lisbon, I decided to eat again, so I stopped in to the cafe.

This is a fried dough type pocket (they fry a little differently here, this was not oily at all), stuffed with shrimp.  It was so good.  I hope to find these here on the island.  I have had similar ones stuffed with tuna, but the shrimp was really good.

I decided after that to give another cookie a try.  This time I selected the fig cookie.  I was blown away.  It was filled with fig jam and was not so dry.  I was very happy to find that the rest of the cookies were really good and not like the chocolate.

Oh, one more picture from Paris.  I bought this variety pack of mustards in the airport before leaving Paris.  I could not resist.  I am a sucker for mustard.

When Ryan returned home, he unpacked the paintings we bought on the street in Paris.  Here they are.  They need to be framed, but they made it home nicely.  They are done with oil on canvas.

QUESTIONS:  Do you ever find that on travel days it seems all you do it eat?  Do you ever buy art while on vacation?  Have you ever been disappointed by a gourmet purchase?

I love buying art when traveling! I bought some prints in Paris about 20 years ago that I still have today! :)

What a fantastic trip! I enjoyed catching up on your time in Paris. We haven't been there yet. We keep thinking we'll do Paris combined with another trip, but have decided to wait until we can do a lot of France all at once. Your pictures make me want to go now!

The art is beautiful! We bought several paintings when we were in Bali. We still need to get them framed, but they are of elephants and rice fields which remind us of our time in SE Asia. From Brazil I brought back soapstone and clay cooking pots. Not wall art, but a form of art for sure.

We always try to buy some art while we're traveling...it's a great way to look back at a trip! I always feel like I eat a ton on travel days, but I blame it on weird sleep schedules!
